Dr. Michael E. Portman is a clinical psychotherapist and an expert and supervisor in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). I am also an international authority on generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Dr. Portman has worked for over fifteen years in diverse settings, from community mental health to treating military personnel at the Cleveland Veterans Administration. I have served as an adjunct faculty member at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University and The Ohio State University, supervising advanced students.
Dr. Portman is currently residing in Englewood, NJ and maintains a clinical private practice. Dr. Portman trains others, conduct research and have published "Generalized Anxiety Disorder Across the Lifespan: An Integrative Approach" by Springer-Science (see Publications). I was recently a guest editor for a special edition of Psychiatric Annals on GAD and the lead expert author of a chapter for Elsevier (also on GAD). Dr. Portman is in the process of writing a second book on GAD and it is expected to be published in 2018 by Oxford University Press.
